Renowned British artist Michelle Baharier is set to present her powerful solo exhibition, A Splash of Colour, at the Bonnington Centre Community Association in Vauxhall, London. This exhibition showcases Baharier's dynamic approach to contemporary art, blending expressive colours and textures that reflect her spirited interpretation of urban life, community, and mental health awareness.
Baharier is celebrated for her powerful emotive works, which include acrylic portraits that break down barriers putting disabled people in the frame and architectural photographs, bringing a unique worldview. A Splash of Colour is an invitation to explore the intersections of mental-health and creativity, conveyed through vivid hues and spontaneous brushstrokes. The variety of inspiring works on show include portraits, the artist's critically acclaimed collection “Cats” and urban photography. They depict the breadth of influences from narratives on resilience, joy to the power of people, many unknown, who have shaped our society.
Baharier says: “Everyone deserves to have a wonderful artwork in their home! It’s good for the soul.”
The Bonnington Centre Community Association, located in the heart of Vauxhall, provides an inclusive community space providing a cafe, gallery and the local community. This exhibition underscores its mission to foster community through art, social events, and creativity.
Artist Bio:
Michelle Baharier is an acclaimed artist and advocate whose work addresses social issues through a compassionate, community-oriented lens. Her exhibitions have inspired audiences across the UK and beyond, resonating with those who see art as a catalyst for social change. She is an award winning graduate form the SLADE School of fine art, her work is in private and public collections. She is a member of ‘Invisible women’ an arts council funded group of disabled women artists, the Bethlem Collective, the Colour walk, Disability Arts online. Michelle is currently commissioned to work with the London Transport Museum. Her work is collected by Museums and private collectors.

We would like to apologise for the delay in re-opening the gallery come bookshop this year, as we are in the middle of transforming the space into a new experience.
We hope to be opening our doors again, at the end of June or the beginning of July, as this will be a whole new immersive experience of what truly is the Bookery's philosophy and views on sharing of culture and ideas.
So watch this space, as we will be posting later on this 2024 of our re-opening.

Featuring:
Holly Penfield: A San Franciscan singer-songwriter based in London, Holly
is celebrated for her eclectic blend of blues, rock, and pop. She began her
musical journey at age 12, receiving training from legendary vocal coach
Judy Davis. After securing record contracts with Blondie producers Mike
Chapman and Nicky Chinn, she released her debut album, Full Grown Child, in
1980. With over 3,000 concerts to her name, Holly's recent album, Tree
Woman, explores the human condition from a woman's perspective and
showcases her captivating stage presence.
Paul Friedlander: Born in 1951 in Manchester, UK, Paul Friedlander is a
renowned light artist who merges science and art. Inspired by his
mathematician father and artist mother, he studied physics at Sussex
University. In 1983, he invented chromastrobic light, creating kinetic
sculptures influenced by chaos theory and cosmology. His innovative work
has been exhibited globally and has earned numerous awards, making him a
prominent figure in contemporary art.
Julie Dennis: A versatile professional in music and film production, Julie
holds a PhD in creative interventions for musicians' mental health. Based
in London, she is a skilled vocalist, educator, and producer who owns
Petulant Records. Julie conducts masterclasses and mentors students across
various disciplines. Currently producing a biopic on Mikis Theodorakis, her
expertise spans music technology and branding while emphasizing mental
well-being in creative pursuits.
Julie Dennis will host the interviews with Holly Penfield and Paul
Friedlander.
If time allows, bring along your poetry, songs, instruments, or comedy
routines to share with the group.
The event will wrap up with a lively group singalong and a Karaoke Jam for
everyone to enjoy!
Location: We'll be upstairs on the first floor.

To all the inspiring artists we have had the pleasure to grace our walls and space with exquisite, innovative and very expressive artworks across the spectrum, we thank you.
To all the authors, thank you for launching your books and bringing informative evenings to us.
To the many speakers talking on inspiring and educational subjects and who brought debate to the Bookery, we thank you.
To all the performers we have had the privilege to hand the space over to, singers, poets, musicians and light artists, of phenomenal magic, we thank you. You echoed with your energy throughout the gallery.
To you, the public, who have come in and visited us joining and taking part in the events and talks at the Bookery, thank you too.
We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year, with much magic to come in 2024.

An evening to open the season, with Aaron Barschak and Mark Stafford

We are delighted to announce a mammoth talk between two giants, Aaron Barschak and in conversation with Cartoonist Mark Stafford, who has brought out his new book 'Salmonella Smorgasbord'.
There will be a chance to hear Stafford discuss his graphic artworks and storytelling behind it, Immersing us in Gauls, Dragons and weird ditties of an inky nature.
We end the evening with a Q&A, with Stafford gracing us with a book signing.
